I have a 5 Star general , looks like a mini motorcycle,it is Black with large gas tank on top, I believe it is 81-84 gotta check the title, anyway It is great shape except for the tail lights looks like someone dropped the bike on its side and messed them up, any rough idea of the value of the bike in running condition? also my friend who is a mechianic replaced the pistions and rebuilt the engine but he couldn't find the battery so he bypassed it and now you have to get a running start to get it started, I would like to bring it back to the orginal way it was and need a wireing diagram and battery, can I use any simimilar size/capacity/voltage battery? If you have a copy of the wiring diagram please email it to me at kingofthenet@mail.com

just measure the size of the battery box and get a 6 volt battery to fit it.
batteries on any moped, scooter, or motorcycle have absolutely nothing to do with engine running or starting. they only do 3 things;
1) turn the starter motor if you have electric start. i doubt the general 5 star does.
2) maintain headlight brightness at idle.
3) act as a resistor at high rpm so that bulbs dont blow out.your hard starting issue is either fuel problems, dirty or misadjusted points, low compression, plugged exhaust, or an air leak somewhere. power to the ignition is provided by the magneto. there is a manual for a general 5 star with a sachs engine at www.mopedriders.org in the moped repair section. if youi have the minerelli engine, there is a manual for that engine there as well. donp Mow-Ped
