"Advice/Opinions"

Ok, so my mom sent me a link to ScooterDepot.us and I was wondering what you guys thought about these folks. None of the scooters have brand names shown, though I think I could make out "Roketa" on one of them. I think they look pretty shady, myself.

Thanks,
Jess

There is no brand because they are their own brand. There are tons of people bringing in scooters from China that are very similar to one another, and then putting their own brand and model names on them.

Look at their warranty. It's 30 days and parts only. That should probably tell you something. Most of the major brands offer at least a year on parts and labor. Some brands even offer 2 years parts and labor. Labor typically constitutes the bulk of any repair bill you will pay on a vehicle, scooters are no exception. When you think about it, a warranty is basically a gamble on the part of a manufacturer/distributor. They are making a bet on the reliability rate of their product over a certain time period. Either they are very confident that there won't be many problems, or that the problems can be easily and inexpensively resolved. It's possible they are willing to take a financial hit to ensure customer loyalty and to get people buying, but that's not sustainable in the long term.

While it may sound weird, there are a lot of used scooters that are worlds better than a good number of the new scooters being sold over the internet. They will be safer, more reliable, longer lasting than the bargain specials on eBay.

If you're serious about buying anything off the internet, you should really do your research and demand solid proof of any claims made, particularly with regard to EPA, DOT and CARB certification. It's important to have those, because in many states you will just have an expensive piece of garage art that you can't register without valid documentation.

Your mom must not like you much, stay away from this garbage. Go buy a name brand, reliable scooter from a know manufacturer and dealer near were you live. Something like Vespa, Honda, Yamaha, etc. .
