"Sawaki Scooters - Help Identifying the coolest chinese "

   Hey Everybody,

Today a guy stopped by the shop with a Sawaki brand 49cc retro scooter. I didn't have a camera, but I asked the guy to come back some time so I can take a pic.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of this brand? The scooter had the same body as the base model TN'G Venice (Some copy of the Vino I believe...) but it didn't have that ugly legshield mounted headlight. It had an enclosed headset similar to a Vespa. The whole bike reminded me, looks wise, of a Vespa Rally. It was awesome, and nothing I've seen before since we opened the shop.

The headset was unlike any I've seen on a chinese clone before, it literally looked like it belonged on an older Vespa. It was not a milano style headset or exposed handlebars like the lowboy/baron retro or the regular Venices/Vinos.

The quality of the components was the typical no-name Chinese fair and we sold him a lot of engine pieces on the cheap from one the scooters in our graveyard. The paint was nothing to write home about...

But the body style itself was what I've been dying to see in a plastic scooter, I can't believe no other companies are copying this. Does anyone know of a more reputable company out there selling a scoot like this?

So, you can say with a straight face that "the same body as the base model TN'G Venice" could "The whole bike remind me, looks wise, of a Vespa Rally"?

Anything you said after that lost me completely, as that's probably the most stupid thing I've ever seen typed out.

I thought the same thing. But then I remembered that many many people now selling scooters/running a shop don't have years of passion, study and critical experience of vintage scooters. Nor do many have the 'fortunate experience' of sacred icon subculture etiquette. So I try to cut slack. Ya, it's still hard to get past that sentence. It's like when people talk about the joker style clones and say something like, "wow, it looks like a harley", like that's a good thing (or say it looks good in general).

The scooter was by far the best-looking chinese scooter I have ever come across.

To deny that the Venice/Vino body style is inspired by Vespa is ridiculous.

The headset on this thing looks very similar to the headset on say a Vespa Rally, it has smoother contours than a PX. It also has turn signals molded into it that remind me of the same ones that the US Rallys had. Its completely enclosed and seperate from the body. It even had a crome ring around the headlight.

I'm not going to get into a debate of vintage vs honda(or whatever) vs chinese.

I know that it is common to copy designs among manufaturers and I was curious as to whether anyone had heard of this company or perhaps knew a reputable company which made a clone of it.

Hopefuly the guy will come back so I can take some photos and I'll show you.

Or, more accurately, inspired by a series 1 Lambretta

Dude, you know what the best part of owning a Sawaki is that I forgot to mention? They have a big blue dolphin next to their logo.

We used to get a lot of flyers from companies with names like "Yamasaki" and "Yamazuki", but I haven't gotten anything good lately. I think companies are starting to crack down.

My absolute all-time favorite are Viaggios, I must admit.

All growing scooterists eat their Viaggios in the morning,
Viaggios, the only cereal with real oil!
