"Honda GB250 Clubman info wanted"
| |
Found a grey-market 1987 GB250 Clubman for sale locally. Very sweet looking bike. Anyone have any info on these? I can't find anything on the net that isn't in Japanese. Just wondering if I'm walking into a parts sourcing nightmare.

I have never seen or rode a GB250. I have ridden a GB500, and a GB500 that was tarted up. The GB500 plain jane seemed a little under powered for a 500cc single, the tarted up one was a lot of fun. A 250.. probably pretty anemic. They sold GB400's overseas as well, according to my Aussie friend, the GB500 is what the GB400 owners would like to upgrade to. Woof |

The only GB250 I've ever seen on sale was on ebay with a blown motor. I looked long time at it, but decided it'd be too much of a nightmare to find a motor to swap into it. Though it does look like a Honda Rebel 250 engine.... -=Tom

My 2 cents worth would be to swap in a XR400 engine into your GB250, The only reason I wouldnt say XR250 is because it might be a little anemic without the Twin-cam head, The XRs DO NOT come with an electric starter;but who needs it! |

Frank ... are you sure that isn't a twin cylinder ? (Rebel? - Nighthawk?) I assumed being "GB" that it would be a single ... but I don't know. No XR250s had twin exhaust ports did they ? (I don't actually know) |

On that last post,Go over to the right hand side of the screen and click on HONDA from there scroll down until you see 250 singles, from there it will lead you to the GB250, This is a UK site that has some great real world info on owning some of these bikes, I dont have to tell anyone here that the Brits are the REAL motorcycle "blokes and Birds" its not just a hobby or a leisure pursuit, Its a way of life! |

yeah OK but One reason I said that was ... that GB is clearly a DOHC motor ... I know no XR's were DOHC (they are all SOHC). ... even the latest greatest CRF's are all SOHC ... dirtbikes ? ... I've got about 10 of em bud ... like a modern YZ250 .. many others. .. but I just couldn't picture the 2 exh pipes on an XR - even though I've ridden with and seen lots of them .... in fact I like them. ... guess i never paid attention ... always good to learn new things ... (GB250 a single) .. though I'll probably never see one |

Yeah, The Great XR desert sleds, cant imagine one I'd rather have in the middle of Death valley. ....Clearly other markets get some much cooler stuff than we do. You have trumped my dirt bike collection by about nine, I have a very rare HONDA TL250 Trials bike. Have you ever pondered Turning a Dual Sport dirt bike into a Cafe? I mean,so many of the critical elements are there, light weight, aluminum wheels and swingarm ect, ect, The main issue would be changing out the front with a streetbike suspension and getting a different rear shock.

I have a GB250. Its quite hard to find parts for a Honda GB. the best place to look for it is in the Japan yahoo Auction. No, I don't know how to read Japanese niether but just type in GB250 in the search bar and look at the photos on the side. If you need any help in bidding (because overseas cannot bid). Please leave me your e-mail. |

I have a 1985 GB250 grey import in New Zealand. The engine is 249cc single cylinder DOHC with 2 Keihin Carbs ( bike is MC10, engine is MC10E ). Basically everything except the tank, seat, & gauges is exactly the same as a CBX250RS ( E ) of the same era. The GB 250 Clubman is the retro-style version of the CBX250RS ( E ). David Silver in England ( davidsilverspares.co.uk ) has both genuine and pattern parts for CBX250RSE. My local Honda dealer has managed to get most things for me so far. If I could knew how, I would put a picture of my bike here. I have got the standard seat for rider/pillion, and the single seat with plastic cover piece at the back, like a '60s BSA or Norton. I haven't seen another one on the internet with the single seat. |
