Uh, yeah.

Why you would want to go back to those days is beyond me. I remember my dad driving his '65 125 to work and back every day. MY brother and I are restoring this scooter now, and it is because of the renewed interest, and websites like this, that we can even hope to finish this project (which we will, in about a month). So they are a little more expensive now. If you have one to ride, quit complaining and hop on it. If you only liked scooters because not many people had them, then go find a derbi, or an AMC Concorde, or a wagon pulled by goats or something.
If anybody ever throws anything at me, I will locate the proper authorities and have them duly punished. I cannot fathom romanticizing violence. There have been a number of cyclists here killed or injured because "kids" threw things at them. I know you were probably being tongue in cheek, but think about what you are saying.
There are still affordable deals out there, just not on every street corner (to me, that's half the fun.) Its just like anything else lately. YOu can get one if you want one, and if you don't have a lot of money, chances are you'll have to invest a little elbow grease, alot of time, and spend some time on the phone with a scooter shop. If you work at one, you should certainly be benefitting from this renewed scooter mania. Just my opinion.
