Ok guys and gals. I'm stumped. Here's the scenario: I pulled my rally engine totally apart and did the standard rebuild (seals, gaskets, shift cross, etc). I figured I might as well run all new cables. Then I thought hey, the electrical is pretty dodgy, I'll make a new harness... Well, I get the engine back in the bike and it fires right up! I played with the carb a bit and it got idling perfect. What'd I do next? Well I took it for a ride. I go up and down the street a couple o times blowing out all the oil I used to lube everything up on the reassembly... as soon as the power band got smooth I flew through the gears and got up to about 50 pretty quick when it died. Sounded like it was out of gas (which was probable, I only put a splash in) So I coasted up the drive way. First I checked the gas. Plenty. So I tried to kick it. After several kicks with nothing, I pulled the plug. Fouled. Ok I thought, new plug. New plug > still no spark. Hmmmm. So I started to do the basics: Kill on? nope. Key on? yep. Hmmm. I disconnected the wires in the little black box next to the carb in order to isolate the engine. Still no spark. I proceeded to check the connection at the external coil thingy (the thing the ignition wire comes out of on the rally electronic) connection good. Still no spark!! What next? I don't know what to do. I guess tomorrow I'll take a look at the stator and make sure everything is right... Other than that???? I'm stumped. It felt so good to be back in the saddle, even if it was only for 3 minutes...
